Well, wouldnt you know it! My first attempt at creating a serial cable to connect the Cambridge Z88 to my PC worked flawlessly!
The only real issue (after I'd worked out the pinout and located some connectors and shells) is that the female connector on the Z88 is resessed into the casing, so normal shells (which have a lip into which the actual connector sits) foul the casing. My solution was to take a plastic shell and saw off the protruding lip, then glue the connector into the shell.
This worked marvelously! The next step is to try a piece of software I downloaded for linux called z88link which should allow me to transfer files without having to use a terminal program (minicom) on linux and hand capture the contents of the file, which is what I did for the previous post.
